Offline Poker Experience

The Offline Poker Experience & Card Room

The Velvet Felt is a fully offline, in-person card room built around handcrafted poker tables, tactile chip stacks and professional dealers. Every hand is dealt at the table by a live dealer, with physical cards, real shuffles, and face-to-face reads across the felt.

  • Custom-built poker tables finished in deep emerald speed cloth and charcoal timber detailing.
  • Ergonomic leather seating with balanced sightlines to dealers, chip stacks and the tournament clock.
  • Professional dealers managing pace of play, card deals, chip counting and pot tracking.
  • Game formats include No-Limit Texas Hold'em, Pot-Limit Omaha, deep stack series and bounty tournaments.
  • Tactile, social atmosphere with heavy ceramic chip stacks, audible shuffles and live table talk.
  • Tableside dining and speakeasy-level drink service throughout all sessions.

Tournament Formats & Buy-Ins

Tournament Formats, Blind Structures & Buy-In System

Our tournament schedule blends Texas Hold'em tournaments, Pot-Limit Omaha events and curated deep stack series, all run as offline poker experiences with live dealers and structured blinds. Every tournament is designed to balance time at the table, tactical depth and social enjoyment.

Formats

Texas Hold'em & Pot-Limit Omaha

Expect nightly No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournaments, signature deep stack series and regular Pot-Limit Omaha showdowns. Bounty formats and invitational high roller nights are added to the calendar for players seeking more experimental structures.

Buy-Ins in Chips

Tournament Chips & Entry Fees

Each event lists a clear buy-in expressed as an entry fee that grants you a starting stack of tournament chips. Additional re-entry or add-on options, if available, are also described. Play is for chip stacks, ranking and leaderboard prestige only; there is no cash wagering or monetary payout.

Structure

Blind Levels & Starting Stacks

Typical deep stack events begin with generous starting stacks such as 30,000 or 40,000 tournament chips, with blind levels progressing in 15, 20 or 30 minute intervals. Our tournament clock and dealers clearly call out blind increases to keep the card room flowing smoothly.

Dining & Social Bookings

Dining, Drinks & Social Lounge Reservations

The Velvet Felt pairs its offline poker card room with a boutique Australian grill and speakeasy bar. You are welcome to visit purely for the culinary program, settle into a booth with friends, or graze on share plates between hands.

Can I dine without playing poker?

Absolutely. Many guests book The Velvet Felt for the gourmet experience alone. Our kitchen focuses on dry-aged wagyu steaks, slow-charred cuts, artisan sliders and elevated bar bites, supported by charcuterie boards and local produce. The speakeasy bar offers Australian whiskies, seasonal cocktails and thoughtfully crafted non-alcoholic options.

You can reserve a lounge table, dine at the grill or simply enjoy drinks at the bar. If you decide to take a seat at the poker tables later in the evening, our team can help you transition seamlessly into the card room.

Where can I see the full menu?

Our current grill, speakeasy and tableside snack selection is outlined on the Dining & Bar Menu page. Seasonal dishes, chef specials and pairing flights are updated regularly to keep the experience fresh for returning guests and corporate groups.

Participation & Guest Policies

Participation, Age Restrictions & Dress Code

We want every visit to The Velvet Felt to feel both welcoming and distinctly premium. Our participation and dress standards are designed to protect the offline poker experience while remaining inclusive for curious first-timers and seasoned card room regulars alike.

Do I need prior experience to sit at the poker tables?

No. First-time players are welcome, provided you are comfortable learning in a live card room. Our dealers are experienced at guiding newcomers through hand rankings, turn order, chip stack management and basic Texas Hold'em strategy. For a softer introduction, choose a social-format event or speak with the host about recommended tournaments.

You are also welcome to spectate briefly before registering, giving you a chance to observe the pace of play, blind structure and table etiquette.

What are the age and dress code requirements?

The Velvet Felt is strictly an 18+ venue. Valid photo ID may be required on entry. We maintain a smart casual to elevated dress standard in the card room and high roller lounge: think collared shirts, dark denim or trousers, dresses, blazers and polished footwear.

Sports jerseys, thongs, training gear and heavily distressed clothing may not align with the ambience of the venue. If you are unsure, our team is happy to advise when you make your reservation.

Club Rules & Etiquette

General Club Rules, Etiquette & Chip Systems

Our house standards keep games flowing smoothly and ensure every guest enjoys a respectful, fair and social card room. These principles apply across all poker tables, from introductory events through to invitational high roller tournaments.

How do chip values and buy-ins work?

Each tournament uses colour-coded ceramic chip stacks, with values clearly displayed at the table and announced by the dealer during the briefing. Your buy-in grants a specific starting stack of tournament chips; re-entries and add-ons, if offered, follow the same chip-value system.

All play is for tournament chips, in-house accolades and leaderboard recognition. No cash games, real-money betting or monetary payouts are conducted at The Velvet Felt.

What etiquette is expected in the card room?

We ask players to act in turn, protect their cards, keep chip stacks visible, avoid slow rolling and refrain from discussing folded hands while a pot is live. Respectful language is expected at all times. Mobile phone usage at the table is to be kept minimal and should never delay the action.

Our dealers and floor staff have final discretion on rulings, seat changes and tournament decisions. Their role is to safeguard fairness, pace of play and the overall offline poker experience for everyone in the room.
